Stakna Monastery

It is appalling to scribble the fact that Stakna Monastery is  known as "Tiger's nose monastery" because the monastery is constructed on a rock that makes an appearance of a tiger facing towards the sky. It resides on a hefty hilltop around 25 kilometers from Leh town. Stakna monastery is established in the 16th century by a Bhutanese scholar and saint named Chosje Jamyang Palkar.

The impressive marble statue of Avalokitesvara stands in the center of the monastery. It is believed that the monk took the responsibility of carrying the marble statue from Assam to Leh. Stakna Gompa is recognized for its flawless architectural work. The monastery incorporates a multiple features such as Dukhang which is a massive gathering hall, murals of Sakyamuni, Tsephakmad, and Amchi embellished in the walls of the Dukhang.

The best possible time to visit the Skatna Monastery is during the early evening hours. When it comes to season, May to September is considered as the seamless season that invites more tourists.
